Data we store

When you create an account, we store your email address and username.

We never store your password as entered. We store only a cryptographic hash of it, from which the password cannot be read.

We store your game results: the words you played, your guesses, the points you earned, your win streak and the date of your last Word of the day. We use them to show your profile and the leaderboard.

When you play as a guest, no account is created. The server temporarily keeps only the state of the current game, so that it can evaluate your guesses.

How we use your data

We use your data only to run the game: signing in, saving results, and showing your profile and the leaderboard. The leaderboard shows only your username and total points, never your email address.

We do not sell your data. Only the service providers named in this policy have access to it, and only to the extent needed to run the game.

Emails

We send emails through Resend (resend.com). We send only account-related messages: the code to confirm your registration, the code to confirm a new email address and the code to reset your password. For this purpose, Resend processes your email address and the content of the message.

We do not send marketing emails or newsletters.

Cookies and local storage

The game itself does not use cookies. To work, it uses your browser’s local storage (localStorage and sessionStorage), which holds your sign-in data (session tokens), the selected game language, the dark or light theme, your game settings and an unfinished guest game. This data stays on your device, and you can remove it by clearing the site’s data in your browser.

Cookies may be set by Google and its advertising partners, as described in the next section.

Google ads

The site uses Google AdSense to show ads, and the AdSense code is loaded on every page. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance.

You can turn off personalised ads in your ad settings at adssettings.google.com. To learn how Google uses data from its partners’ sites, see policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Deleting your account and your rights

You have the right to request access to your data, its correction or its deletion. You can change your username, email address and password yourself on your profile page.

To delete your account, send a request to contact@balkanwordle.com from the email address you registered with. Your account and all related results will be permanently deleted within 30 days, and we will confirm this by email.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date of the last update is always shown at the top of the page.
